PRINCIPAL CLOUD SYSTEMS ENGINEER

  • 45% Cloud Cost Reduction: Benchmarked and executed a transition to modern, flexible OCI shapes, matching exact workload requirements while boosting application performance by 22%.
  • Global Load Balancer Modernization: Upgraded legacy enterprise traffic to HTTP/2 and TLS 1.3, securing the network perimeter and slashing response times by 61%.
  • Corporate AI Governance: Engineered secure infrastructure pathways and scoped access controls on the corporate AI Committee to safely integrate generative AI models.

SENIOR CLOUD SYSTEMS ENGINEER

  • Automated WAF Deployment: Protected public load balancers against OWASP Top 10 threats by scripting automated WAF policy management via the OCI CLI.
  • High-Availability Storage: Designed and deployed an active/passive NFSv4 tier using Terraform and Pacemaker failover orchestration.
  • Enterprise IBM MQ Upgrade: Led a zero-downtime messaging modernization across 36 clients, seamlessly handling hundreds of thousands of messages per minute.

CLOUD SYSTEMS ENGINEER

  • Tier-3 Infrastructure Support: Led alert remediation and infrastructure support, leveraging Oracle SQL and log analytics to isolate root causes and maintain peak uptime.
  • B2B & Edge Networking: Provisioned secure tenant integrations in a multi-tenant Oracle Cloud environment, configuring Site-to-Site VPNs, security lists, and protocols like IBM MQ and Google Pub/Sub.
  • Centralized Log Management: Designed and deployed a universal Filebeat and ELK stack logging solution, cutting application log retrieval and troubleshooting times by 2 hours per session.
  • Database & Process Automation: Developed a Python and Oracle SQL automation tool for backend stored procedures, saving 25 hours weekly per client and reducing operational errors by 90%.

INTERN / PROGRAMMER TECH I

  • IoT Device Libraries: Developed and documented cloud-connected firmware libraries on the Electric Imp platform, engineering robust fault-tolerance for raw sensor inputs.
  • Firmware Optimization: Refactored legacy serialization code into native, C-based Base64 encoding libraries to eliminate critical device bottlenecks.
  • CI/CD Pipeline Automation: Built a Git-driven continuous integration pipeline to automate production firmware compilation, keeping technical changelogs and upstream code pristine.

Oak Ridge National Laboratory

HIGH PERFORMANCE COMPUTING INTERN

  • Application Parallelization: Optimized and accelerated complex scientific workloads across heterogeneous GPU/CPU nodes using CUDA and MPI libraries with NVIDIA and Intel compilers.
  • Hardware Optimization & Capping: Assembled, configured, and performance-tuned a custom six-node InfiniBand-connected cluster, aggressively managing hardware constraints by custom-tuning thermal limits and fan curves to maximize throughput within a strict 26-amp (3120W) power budget.
  • Global SC14 Competition: Secured a 2nd place finish representing the University of Tennessee across 12 elite global teams in a non-stop, 48-hour challenge, achieving top-tier sustained performance across LINPACK, NAMD, and mystery scientific application benchmarks.

Personal Lifestyle

When I'm not deep in an infrastructure stack, you'll usually find me on two wheels. Whether navigating city streets or pushing my limits on the track, riding demands a kind of focus that I don't find many other places. It forces me to stay aware of my surroundings, manage risk before it becomes a problem, and always look a little farther down the road.

I live in the "big city" of Atlanta, but my roots are in Appalachia. If you ask me, cornbread belongs in a cast-iron skillet, we call the bubbly-sweet drink "Coke," and the best roads are the twisty ones. More than anything, though, I learned to lead with hospitality, take care of the land and communities we share, and persevere when the going gets tough.
